Account deletion

From Resonite Wiki

For various reasons, you might at some point want to delete your Resonite account.

There are currently a few ways to achieve this.

When triggering an account deletion, your account will have a one week timeout to cancel the deletion in case you change your mind, sending you reminders every day.

Before fully deleting your account, you might want to download and back up your data. Deleting your account is irreversible and will delete all your content saved from the platform. Only minimal information is kept to detect ban evasion.

Deletion methods

Using the graphical client

To delete your account using the graphical client, log into Resonite, go in the contacts tab and search for the Resonite Bot named "Resonite".

You will need to then send the command /requestAccountDeletion to the bot, which should confirm the pending deletion.

Using the account deletion tool

When it is not possible for you to log into the graphical client (which is the case with some hard bans), a program is made available to delete your account.

You will need to install the .NET 8 runtime before running the program.

For this you will need to:

  • Download the Resonite client on Steam
  • Open the Resonite client directory
  • Go in "Tools" then "AccountDelete"

You will need to execute AccountDelete.exe (or use dotnet AccountDelete.dll) and follow the instructions on-screen.

FAQ

I changed my mind, how can I cancel the deletion?

You can cancel the deletion by logging into the graphical client and sending to the Resonite Bot the command /cancelAccountDeletion. Similarly, you can use the account deletion tool to cancel the deletion.

My account has been deleted, how can I recover my data?

Unfortunately, once your account has been deleted, all the data is gone meaning there is no way to recover it in case you change your mind after the fact.

If you downloaded your data using one of the data download tools, you can ask for help on the Resonite Discord to re-import your data.

I've been banned, can I delete my account and create a new one to avoid the ban?

Unfortunately not, doing so can lead to more severe restrictions. If you think you've been unfairly banned, please fill a ban appeal on on the moderation portal instead.
