A stuck sync is a serious inventory syncing issue where saving items or worlds, saving the Dash menu, and sending voice messages remain in the sync task queue without ever persisting back to the cloud. It is easily identified by the sync status facet if the percentage on the facet does not update, if the number of items to sync continues to go up without decreasing, and if the words Sync Error do not show in the sync status facet.
Ensure the right guide is being followed
There are multiple guides for Sync related matters. Unless confirmed, please review the different types of sync errors before starting.
Although sync errors might exhibit similar behaviors between them, there are slight differences that may require different steps.
DO NOT
- Delete your Resonite data/database or cache files. Doing this will likely make you lose your un-synced items, and it can cause other side effects.
- Reinstall Resonite. Doing this does not help syncing issues as these are stored in a separate location.
- Try to save and sync any more items or worlds; doing this will add to the sync queue.
- Click the "Exit & Save Homes" button; doing this will also add to the sync queue.
- Send any objects or voice messages through the Contacts tab; doing this will also add to the sync queue. These objects or voice messages will not be sent to the recipient as well until this issue is resolved.
- Change the Dash menu; doing this will add to the sync queue.
Diagnosing a stuck sync
The first step on diagnosing if a stuck sync occurred is to ensure if the sync status facet remains in the syncing phase without ever progressing. Sometimes, syncing may take some time to progress due various factors such as the size of the world or item, Internet speed, and the current state of Resonite's cloud. Follow these steps to confirm the issue:
- Examine the sync status facet in the Dash menu. It will usually be located on the top bar of the dash and will usually display All Synced in green.
- If the facet says Syncing and displays a percentage and the number of items to sync, examine if percentage changes or if the number of items to sync decreases. Give it a few minutes to double check that it is not being slow.
- If the facet displays Sync Error, then this is the incorrect guide. Please review the sync errors hub page for the exact sync error. Otherwise, if the facet still displays the same percentage or if the number of items to sync has not decreased, then the current sync task queue is stuck.
Next steps after confirming a stuck sync
After confirming there is a stuck sync, it might be possible to fix it. Please follow the steps below in the exact order:
- If mods or plugins are used, try disabling them to see if those could be affecting the syncing process. If the syncing process is fixed because of this, investigate which disabled mod or plugin is disrupting the syncing process and report this issue to the creator of the mod or plugin.
- If the stuck sync issue started after a recent Resonite update, search for any recently reported sync issues on Resonite's issue tracker or Discord server for possible workarounds.
If the above list still does not address the issue, then please report this issue on Resonite's issue tracker and provide a log file. It is possible that a recent Resonite update or an undiscovered bug could be preventing the syncing process from completing.
