Create New World

This button in your dash menu lets you start a brand new empty world in Resonite that you can build in or import assets into. Think of it as a "New Document", but for VR worlds.

If you're going to experiment with creating or importing things in Resonite, it may be a good idea to do this in a new, empty world instead of cluttering up your home world.

There's a few templates to choose from to initialize the world, but you can remove and change any aspect of them.

If you're looking to explore already built worlds or host a social event, check the World Browser instead.

World Templates:

  • Grid: An empty world with a large, dark-colored floor with a grid pattern on it.
  • Platform: An empty world with a plain circular platform
  • Blank: An empty world without any ground at all.

Session Settings:

World Name: the name of your world, this is how your world will be described to other users (if it's public) and the name it will be saved as.

Mobile Friendly: if selected, this world is optimized for mobile use (Oculus Go, Oculus Quest, etc.) Currently this changes the shaders to ones that are more friendly to mobile GPUs; in the future it may have other effects such as adjusting the default level of detail for imported assets. Note that currently Resonite does not have a mobile client.

Unsafe Mode: Allows the usage of experimental components and deemed unsafe, it's recommended to not check this unless you know what you're doing!

Who Can Join?

  • Private: creates a world that no one can join, unless you specifically invite them.
  • LAN: anyone on your local network can join, but no one from the Internet can (unless invited). Useful for LAN parties, but also running a separate instance of Resonite to act as a server, or a separate instance to use as a camera for recording video.
  • Contacts: users you have added as a contact can join your world at any time without being invited.
  • Contacts+: users anyone in the session has added as a contact can join your world at any time without being invited.
  • Registered users: any registered users can join your world without being invited.
  • Anyone: anyone can join.

To learn more, see Access Levels.

Port: the port that Resonite listens for connections on. It is normally acceptable to leave this on "Auto" and let the OS assign a free port to Resonite. Note that firewall and NAT traversal is all handled automatically, so you don't need to forward any ports to Resonite to act as a host.
