The Stargate System made by Ancients of Resonite is a set of specially designed devices allowing you travel vast distances in a world, or travel between sessions. The primary purpose is for use in Headless sessions so people can come and go through the stargate.
Types of Stargate
Milky Way Stargate
The Milky Way Stargate is the model portrayed in Stargate SG-1. It has orange-red Chevrons and an inner glyph ring that can spin. They are typically placed atop a Ramp with a Dial Home Device nearby.
Destiny Stargate
The Destiny Stargate is the model portrayed in Stargate: Universe. It has smaller white Chevrons and the entire gate rotates when it is dialed. They are always found attached to a ramp of some kind. They are often without any kind of Dial Home Device.
Pegasus Stargate
The Pegasus Stargate is the model portrayed in Stargate Atlantis. It has blue Chevrons and a static glyph ring consisting of digital screens. They are often found without a Ramp, instead partially embedded into the ground with a Dial Home Device nearby.
Setting up a Stargate in your World
Local In-Session Travel
Requirements
- A stargate of your choosing
- A DHD of the same type
- A Ramp (optional)
- Enough space for the Stargate
Setup
- Place the gate and the DHD in the location you want. (If using a Ramp, the Stargate will snap to the ramp.)
- Use the Grabbable Setter Tool to make the Stargate things not grabbable.
- Find the Setup Dialog in the center of the Stargate
- Find the Setup Dialog on the DHD
- Grab the slot reference from the DHD dialog into the DHD input on the Gate Setup Dialog.
- Input a valid address for the Stargate (Must be six symbols, no repeating characters, can have numbers) The text will be Green if it is valid.
- (Milky Way Stargate only) Select a Point of Origin
- Press the button at the bottom of the setup dialog.
- The stargate should now be functional.
Cross-Session
Requirements
- A Stargate of your choosing
- A DHD of the same type
- A Ramp (ideally)
- Enough Space for the Stargate
- Session must be PUBLIC
- Ideally session is on a Headless
- The Stargate Auto Setup Script (its WIP for right now so just DM one of us on discord for help until we get it finished.)
Setup
- Place the gate and the DHD in the location you want. (If using a Ramp, the Stargate will snap to the ramp.)
- Use the Grabbable Setter Tool to make the Stargate things not grabbable.
- Find the Setup Dialog in the center of the Stargate
- Find the Setup Dialog on the DHD
- Grab the slot reference from the DHD dialog into the DHD input on the Gate Setup Dialog.
- Input a valid address for the Stargate (Must be six symbols, no repeating characters, can have numbers) The text will be Green if it is valid.
- (Milky Way Stargate only) Select a Point of Origin
- Enable the Cross-Session check box.
- Fill in the desired Session name and visibility.
- Spawn the Auto Setup Script.
- Place the same info from the Gate Setup Dialog into the Auto Setup Script dialog
- Use a Developer Tool to get the Slot reference of the Stargate and place it into the Primary Stargate input of the Auto Setup Script.
- Press the button at the bottom of the Gate Setup Dialog.
- Websocket Setup
- (On a User-Hosted World) Accept the Websocket Request.
- (On a Headless Session) Add the websocket URL (wss://gates.rxserver.net/) to the allowedURLhosts section of the Headless Config.
- Put the Auto Setup Script somewhere easy to find
- Save the World
- (Headless only) Reboot the world
- Check to see if your Gate is on the public gate list If it isnt, press the "Reconnect" button on the auto setup script. If that still doesn't work, DM one of us on the Discord
Using a Stargate
Dialing
To activate a Stargate, it must be Dialed. To dial a Stargate, a valid sequence of glyphs must be input on the gate's Dialing device.
Every stargate has a unique sequence of symbols, its Address, that represents its location. Each gate type has its own set of glyphs, based on the constellations of its home galaxy (the exception being the Destiny stargates, which have arbitrary symbols).
The Address of a Stargate is determined when the Stargate is first set up. The Address of a Stargate consists of 6 symbols for the coordinates, and two extra symbols for galaxy designation (set by the gate type).
Typically only the first 6 symbols are needed to Dial a particular stargate, Unless the destination gate is of a different type, in which case it is required to dial the 7 symbols of its address. After the destination coordinates are input into the Dialing device, the sequence MUST be finished with the Point Of Origin, which is a unique symbol that represents the stargate you are dialing from.
On the Milky Way DHD, the Point Of Origin is a button that must be pressed before the Big Red Button. On the Pegasus DHD, pressing the Big Blue Button once will dial the Point of Origin, and pressing it again will attempt to dial. For Destiny stargates, the Point of Origin is automatically appended to the end of the dialing sequence.
If the dialing sequence is incorrect, the Stargate will make a groaning sound as it shuts down. If the sequence is successful, the gate will idle for 3 seconds before activating.
The Unstable Vortex (Kawoosh)
When a Stargate activates, it releases an unstable high-energy wave. Anything caught within the Unstable Vortex will be destroyed, so stand back when activating a Stargate.
The Event Horizon
When a Stargate has connected, and the vortex has settled, there will be an open Event Horizon "puddle". Travel through the wormhole of a Stargate is One-Way, so you cannot return through the wormhole you arrived in.
