Guide for visiting users

From Resonite Wiki
This page is intended for users visiting from other platforms. It covers the common differences before linking to pages about those platforms.

For a more general introduction, check out the FAQ or the Main Page

It's mostly about the overall core ideas and other major friction points found across each platform. What a user might be used to, what they might expect compared to other platforms, both pros and cons. The aim is not about what is 'better' but to document the differences.

Common

Resonite has a number of aspects to it, both technically and community based that while not absolutely unique, are common to these guides:

  • Resonite isn't the host, you are.
    • When you create a new instance of a world (e.g. when there are no existing public instances), your computer is responsible for serving anyone else who joins. If you leave an instance you're hosting (or crash), everyone else will be kicked out as well. (Some users host dedicated headless servers for common worlds.)
  • You can be in multiple worlds at once.
    • Joining another world doesn't disconnect you from your current one. You can switch between them or close them in the Worlds tab of your dash menu, similar to browser tabs. (On desktop, you can switch using Ctrl+Tab.)
  • This is a mature, tight-knit crowd.
    • According to Resonite's terms of service, all players must be 16 or older. Adult content is explicitly allowed in private or hidden sessions, as long as all players within are 18 or older and have consented to it; see Adult Content Session Matrix for details.
    • The userbase is "quality over quantity"; there's not nearly as much going on as in Rec Room, but those you do meet are by and large friendly and welcoming. You'll likely even get to talk to the staff directly, whether during Office Hours, on the Discord, or in-world.
  • Don't be afraid to ask for help!
    • Mentors (players with a green lightbulb badge) are volunteers certified for helping new players get a hang of Resonite. Don't worry about "taking up their time"; if anything, there are more teachers than students[citation needed], so be wary of a potential mentor swarm!
