Tools
More actions
In Resonite, a lot of actions require using some form of tool. A tool can be really any object within Resonite that you use to achieve some goal. There are various types which are listed below.
Common Tools
Most common officially-supported tools can be found in the Resonite Essentials > Tools folder in your inventory.
| Inspect objects in the world and interact with their gizmos. | ||
| Create and edit ProtoFlux scripting to add advanced functionality. | ||
| Extract, edit, and apply materials to meshes in the world. | ||
| Store components in a tool to be copied onto new slots as needed. | ||
| Glue items together under a common grabbable parent or bake multiple meshes into a single mesh. | ||
| Set and manipulate grabbable properties of objects. | ||
| Set and manipulate Collider properties of objects. | ||
| Change color of objects. | ||
| Hide specific objects from cameras. | ||
| Change visibility of meshes. | ||
| Create slicers to cut objects. | ||
| Edit gaussian splats | ||
| Transfer meshes between different armatures. | ||
| Copy and edit meshes of objects. | ||
| Make armatures, auto weight-painting meshes and set up FABRIK solver. | ||

Equipping
Equipping a tool allows you to use it without constantly needing to hold it with your grip button. To equip a tool first grab it, then open your context menu and select the fist icon with the word "Equip". Alternatively you may grab the tool with your laser and draw it in all the way by holding back on that hand's joystick. When the tool reaches the hand it will equip.
The tool will now remain mounted to your hand, even if you release grab. To dequip the tool simply open the context menu again and select the hand hand releasing an object icon labeled "Dequip".
Effects
While a tool is equipped your context menu will change to new actions inherent to the tool. See tutorials and documentation on the individual tools to see what actions the tools have. Also your primary and secondary action buttons may gain new functions based on the tool that you have equipped.
Tool Shelf
Located on both wrists of most avatars is a shiny rectangular plate known as the tool shelf. Tools may be placed on the tool shelf for quick access. This can be particularly handy when a task requires you to juggle multiple tools. This can be done by either aiming an equipped tool at the shelf and hitting primary, or by physically placing the tool on the shelf.
For more detailed usage and information on the technical side, see: Tool Shelves
Tool Simulation
One unique feature about Tools is that they can be used not just by users but by programmatically using the Component:ToolSimulator, this allows tools to be integrated into user items in creative or fun ways. For example making something that uses the Geometry Line Brush to draw a shape or the Texture Tool to apply a material to something without the user actually needing to equip it.
MultiTools

MultiTools are special tools that combine the features of two or more tools into a single, convenient, multi-purpose tool. An officially supported MultiTool that combines all common tools into one can be found in Resonite Essentials > Tools > Misc. However, there are many more MultiTools created by the community and not managed by the official development team; these tools may be error-prone and not work as expected so use at your own risk. For infomation on making your own, see: Component:ToolMultiplexer
Custom Tools
These tools are created using the in game components and ProtoFlux to either enhance existing tools or create entirely new tools to utilize within Resonite.
| This tool is for setting up avatars to work as a customizable avatar template within a Resonite Package | |
| Snap together modular components. | |
| Plant Vines that grow out from a surface that appear to hanging off an edge of an object. | |
| Places objects in a scene like a brush, with the added ability to add or remove template objects from a pool for the tool to pull from to place in world. | |
| A system that is used to create reflection probes that utilize the spherical harmonic global lighting of a world by locally changing it for the user depending on the spacial variables connected to the reflection probe templates within the system. | |
| This wizard utility helps the duplication and replacement of slots within a designated parent slot, good for updating a large number of objects at once, complete with the features to rename objects. (for example versioning objects) | |
| This tool controls the sun orientation and intensity of its light of the Dawn Skybox | |
| A modified ProtoFlux tool with the added features to snap-align ProtoFlux nodes on an invisible global grid, with additional features such as a node eraser, setting a custom snap plane, and multi-select mode to move multiple nodes at once. |
